Teacher of the Year
Stone Canyon Elementary is proud to announce Mrs. Jennifer Emmons as the 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Emmons began her teaching career in 1993 at Sapulpa Middle School. After teaching Special Education for eight years at Sapulpa, Jenks and Glenpool she stayed home for ten years with her three daughters. She entered back into the classroom when her youngest daughter started kindergarten and she was ready to get involved again.
Mrs. Emmons is grateful to Mr. Holderman for giving her the opportunity to step back into teaching by first being an assistant and taking care of the students who needed extra support in mathematics. She has been very fortunate to work with amazing teams of teachers.
Mrs. Emmons graduated from Northeastern State University in 1993. She has been a coach of the Academic Team for several years, helped with Book Club for 4th grade and is currently coaching one of the Robotics teams at Stone Canyon. She has attended the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia and, with her team, has implemented a house system in their pod. She has attended the largest technology conference for educators for the last two years. Mrs. Emmons has changed her style of teaching over the years and has a very open ended, student engaging classroom. The students are actively engaged in design thinking and STEM activities often. She was instrumental in securing a grant to dissect sharks for all the 4th grade. You can find her dancing like noone is watching in the car line several days a week.
She is married to Brad and has three children who keep them both busy. Abbie is a sophomore, Kate is a 7th grader and Natalie is a 5th grader at Stone Canyon.
